It is the 40th anniversary of one of the largest Polish travel expeditions. The award-winning documentary film tells the story of the Canoandes79 expedition, during which a team of students from Poland became the first in the world to cross in canoes what is considered the deepest canyon on Earth – the Colca Canyon in Peru.

The expedition included Andrzej Piętowski (leader), Jacek Bogucki, Zbigniew Bzdak, Piotr Chmieliński, Stefan Danielski, Krzysztof Kraśniewski and Jerzy Majcherczyk.

„Godspeed, los Polacos!” shows not only the journey on the rivers of the Americas, but also the political background of the expedition and the subsequent fate of the canoeists, who actively manifested their opposition to the actions of the Polish authorities of the time.

Filmmakers

Adam Nawrot – filmmaker and photographer of Polish descent, living in New York on a daily basis. He founded the production company Sourland, which focuses on creating stories that combine commercial plots with nonfiction. He also works as a freelance cameraman. Adam’s passions include well-lit rooms, competing in mountain running and occasionally writing about himself in the third person. Through his work, he has traveled all over the world, and his life’s inspiration comes from his desire to explore and tell stories. As an avid cyclist, rower and climber, he likes to show the spirit of adventure in his work.

Together with the producer Sonia Szczęsna are made by a Polish-American filmmaking duo who were the first generation of Polish immigrants to take an interest in the political circumstances surrounding their parents’ immigration to the United States.
